Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's land surface; now they cover a mere 6% and experts estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years.

According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat, the overwhelming direct cause of deforestation is agriculture. Subsistence farming is responsible for 48% of deforestation; commercial agriculture is responsible for 32% of deforestation; logging is responsible for 14% of deforestation and fuel wood removals make up 5% of deforestation

Deforestation, clearance or clearing is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a non-forest use. Examples of deforestation include conversion of forestland to farms, ranches, or urban use.

Deforestation on a human scale results in decline in biodiversity, and on a natural global scale is known to cause the extinction of many species. The removal or destruction of areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. Forests support biodiversity, providing habitat for wildlife; moreover, forests foster medicinal conservation. With forest biotopes being irreplaceable source of new drugs (such as taxol), deforestation can destroy genetic variations (such as crop resistance) irretrievably [link]

we need the earth to live, not the other way around.  George Carlin once said that the earth will shake us off like a dog with a flea.  We've been asking for it.

Extremely harmful pattern of social systems been practiced and it has been adopted as norm by the mass due to few individual peoples greed. People are misinformed and the world is been ruled by cooperate puppets. The system has to be changed not the people. Blame goes to media, artist and etc..

As they say, the scum rises to the top.  I generally agree but a "new" system would help, but as always we'll backslide or find a way for it all to be immensely profitable for a few as always.

Deforestation can be stopped immediately by taking two simple natural actions.

1 = Everyone, or many people, stop eating animals and begins to eat vegan.
2 = Everyone, or many people, begins cultivates canapa.

Governments enslaving us by taking away our rights to cultivate what we wish.
We must not accept this!

Food industry and farming have brain washed people's brain and made them believe it is normal to torture and slaughter animals to eat them or their derivatives such as cow milk.
The vegetable food grow to feed animals could be used to feed all the people starving around the world.

There will be no end to deforestation, suffering, starve, war, cruelty, conflicts and so on until people will be unconsciousness.

Yes, yes. In one place called "Thanamalwila" in Sri Lanka we have some tribes who worship canapa and it's their culture. They eat it hardly they smaoke it.

Nicely done. If I may add a note to this: apparently, a lot of current logging in the rain forests, has to do with creating palm-oil plantations, for biofuels.

Palm oil is not yet a big concern here in Sri Lanka. There is plenty of coconut trees. But the Tea plantation is. Yes I know about the the Palm oil issue.

Well said and I think the elephant in the room is that there are just too many humans on this planet.
We need to depopulate and live a sustainable lifestyle. I hate hearing the politicians scream growth, growth at all cost.

We have one in the state (new south wales australia) that gave inside information to his sons to buy a certain farm. They did for $350000 and sold for coal mining for many millions of dollars at a later date. It is a joke as they walk around free. Honestly cannot work out how they sleep at night.

shame, shame, the whole system is corrupted to support such looting in front of our eyes. I think when you are inside the system you don't see the depth of the damage you do, because you are usually on a blind short term fantasy world entertain by rest of the pack who too depend on it.

Very depressing, when you can imaging Earth and its inhabits living in harmony, with free health care, education and help for the needy.
The biggest problem is educating the masses through media and better schools. There are so many humans in this country that just do not have a clue. They would rather talk about fat people loosing weight on some brain dead television show. Its like this big rock spinning through space with no hope.

yes, i too think the education sector have lot to do in passing the latest knowledge to each and everybody equally. I too get pissed off about TV shows, There always wrong person doing the wrong show just to coverup some air time. Non of them are productive for human development. They cant air something worth because the audience is not ready to absorb it. Because the audience is systematically brainwashed to watch this crap since they were invented. They are all commercially driven.
